The Basics Of Brain Anatomy

The brain is one of the most important organs in the body. This organ is complex and is only understood once it is broken down into sections. Brain anatomy is divided into sections each section is responsible for certain bodily functions and together they communicate with the body and allow it to function in the way that it does.

The 3 Parts Of The Brain

The brain is divided into the Forebrain, the Brainstem, and the Hindbrain. Within each of these divisions, the brain is divided into even more brain parts and each of these parts controls a certain function within the body. When we are speaking we tend to use a different part than when we are listening. We can see which part is active during different activities by making use of complex scanning equipment.

The Forebrain

brain-anatomyThe Forebrain is the most complex part of the brain. This area is divided into the Telencephalon and the Diencephalon. The cerebral cortex is contained within the Telencephalon and it is the most complex area of brain anatomy. This area is responsible for decoding the information that is received by it and it allows us to understand these mass amounts of information.

The Brainstem

The brainstem is located at the base of the skull and it is the link between the brain and the body. The information that is received and sent by the brain and the senses are transported through this area so that both can function in unison.

The Hindbrain

This area of the brain is divided into 3 parts: the medulla oblongata, the pons, and the cerebellum. The medulla oblongata controls the functions of the body that are involuntary and it is assisted by the pons. These functions include breathing, blinking, and digestion. The cerebellum controls movement and coordination.

Working As A Team

The brain does not act alone in controlling bodily functions. In order for it to work properly, it needs an entire messaging system throughout the body so that it can send and receive information much as a computer does. Once it has received the information from the senses it will then decide upon the best action to take.

Once this action has been decided it will reply to the message and this message will be transported back to the body. The body is the perfect messaging system. The brain, spinal cord, and nerves work together to ensure that all of these messages are sent and received as quickly as possible.

The Left And Right Hemispheres

Brain anatomy is divided into left and right hemispheres. The left hemisphere controls the right side of the body while the right hemisphere controls the left side of the body. The left hemisphere is the more creative side of the brain and it controls the imagination, creativity, and insight. The right hemisphere of the brain is more practical and it controls reasoning, writing, speaking, and numerical calculations.

This exceptional organ is one of the most important and least understood. Scientists are always in the process of uncovering its secrets and learning more about how it works. Brain anatomy is essential to understanding how it operates as the control center of the body.
